Frequently Asked Questions about therapy at FPP LLC

What types of therapy does Finding Peace in the Poconos offer?

We offer EMDR, Brainspotting, CBT, DBT, IFS, Person-Centered, Solution-Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, and EFT Couple’s Therapy. We are learning new approaches all of the time, and this list may not be exhaustive!

Do you offer online therapy in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Arizona, Florida, and Vermont?

Yes, we offer telehealth services in all of these states. However, not every therapist offers services in every single state.

How does online couples therapy work?

Online couples therapy works much like traditional in-person couples counseling, except you and your partner meet with a licensed therapist through a secure video platform. You can attend sessions together from the comfort and privacy of your own home, making it easier to prioritize your relationship even with busy schedules, family responsibilities, or distance.

How do EMDR and Brainspotting work virtually?

EMDR and Brainspotting can both be provided through secure online therapy sessions, allowing you to process difficult experiences and work toward emotional healing from the comfort of your own space. Although these approaches may sound intimidating at first, your therapist will guide you through the process at a pace that feels manageable and supportive.

How do I find someone who specializes in my therapy needs?

  1. Identify what you would like help with. You don't need a diagnosis or to know exactly what's wrong. Simply identifying what has been difficult lately is a great place to start.

  2. Explore our therapists' specialties. Review our clinicians' profiles to learn about their experience, treatment approaches, and the types of clients they work best with.

  3. Consider the approach that feels right for you. Depending on your needs, you may benefit from approaches such as EMDR, Brainspotting, cognitive behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention (ERP), or Gottman Method couples therapy.

  4. Reach out for guidance. If you're unsure which therapist is the best match, contact our practice for help identifying clinicians whose specialties align with your concerns, availability, and location.

What happens if I become overwhelmed during virtual trauma therapy?

Before beginning trauma processing, your therapist will work with you to develop strategies for managing distress and returning your attention to the present moment. These may include grounding exercises, paced breathing, noticing your surroundings, or other emotional regulation techniques.

If you become overwhelmed during a virtual EMDR or Brainspotting session, your therapist can pause the processing exercise, help you reorient to your surroundings, and assess what you need to feel more stable. You can communicate when something feels uncomfortable, request a break, or discuss adjusting the pace of treatment.

Do you offer therapy for adults with ADHD?

Yes! Finding Peace in the Poconos LLC offers neurodiversity-affirming therapy that recognizes and respects the unique ways individuals experience, process, and interact with the world. Our approach honors neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD, autism, and other differences in attention, communication, sensory processing, and executive functioning.

Do you offer therapy for OCD?

Finding Peace in the Poconos LLC offers therapy for individuals experiencing obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Our goal is to help you understand your symptoms, reduce the distress OCD can cause, and develop practical strategies to regain a sense of control over your daily life. We utilize CBT for OCD and ERP for OCD depending on the client.
